Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) General Secretary Ngo Le Bang said he wanted to resign from the post after the Tet holiday due to work pressures.

Bang’s decision, which was made four months ahead the VFF’s congress, surprised the organisation’s leaders as he seemed apparently enthusiastic at work since taking over the post from Tran Quoc Tuan.

“Working as the VFF’s general secretary has been fairly hard for me. Over the recent period, I’ve tried my best to fulfil my tasks. Vietnamese football has experienced turbulent times. I do want to hand over my post to a more competent person who can contribute more to country’s football development,” he said.

He noted that he was too busy with work and now he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Since taking the post last February, he was assigned several tasks, including looking for a coach of the national football squad and acting as the head of Vietnamese football team at AFF Cup 2012.

VFF’s Chairman Nguyen Trong Hy suggested that Bang should think twice about his resignation as he is currently busy preparing for the VFF’s upcoming 9th congress which is scheduled to open in June.

Hy said he would meet with Bang for further discussions after Tet.

There were already rumours that former football chief Tran Quoc Tuan may resume his work in the next term.

Tuan is currently in charge of football supervision at the General Department of Sports and Physical Training. He is also a member at the Southeast Asian Football Federation and Asian Football Confederation.

Ngo Le Bang trained overseas as a football player and coach.

He is experienced in working as a coach and assistant at club and national team levels.
