Hanoi hosts international badminton champs

58 local players and 211 opponents from India, Brunei, Taiwan and Hong Kong (China), Thailand, the US and Iraq are taking part in the 2013 Hanoi Vietnam Challenge International Badminton Championships from March 26-31.
They compete in five events, namely men’s singles and doubles, women’s singles and doubles and mixed doubles for a total cash prize of US$15,000.

Most remarkable rivals include Li Lian Yan (world No. 77), Wei Nan (No.85), Poodchalat Pisit (No.91), Wei Sheng Loh (No.98) and Chetan Anand (No.99).

During the event, jointly held by the Hanoi Municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the General Department of Sports, participating players can gain valuable points in the official rankings for Olympics qualifiers under the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC) competing systems.
