LS Holdings of the Republic of Korea, a manufacturer of electrical equipment, electronics, energy, and other materials, is to become a major sponsor for the nation’s professional football leagues ahead in 2020.

The move comes following an announcement by the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company in Hanoi on February 6, during which a signing ceremony was held to mark the sponsorship deal between the professional football leagues and LS Holdings.

In line with the terms of the deal, the country’s professional football tournaments will be rebranded to the LS V.League 1 - 2020 and the LS V.League 2 - 2020.

The upcoming season will see 14 teams competing in the LS V.League 1, including champions Hanoi FC, runners-up Ho Chi Minh City FC, and the newly-promoted Hong Linh Ha Tinh FC.

It is expected that the 2020 season will be fiercely competitive with each side permitted to register three foreign players in their squad along with one naturalised Vietnamese player.

Moreover, the LS V.League 2 – 2020 will involve the participation of 12 teams with the league winner taking part in a play-off match against the team that finishes in 13th place in the LS V.League 1. The team that emerges victorious from the tie will win a place in the V.League for the 2021 season.

Fans can look forward to great access throughout the season with all of the league’s matches to be broadcast live.

Despite the excitement among fans for the upcoming season, organisers have moved to postpone fixtures due to the fears surrounding the coronavirus. As a result, the LS V.League 1 will now kick off on March 7 with the LS V.League 2 starting on March 14.
