Farmers in Phu Hau Village in Nghe An Province have been catching rats to top up their earnings and protect their crops for years.
In the morning, local officials in Phu Hau Village of Dien Tan Commune, Dien Chau District use a loudspeaker to encourage farmers to go out rat catching in their fields. They just use simple tools such as hoes, shovels and buckets.
Nguyen Canh, Head of Hamlet No. 1 in Phu Hau said, “It’s vital that we hunt the rats in order to protect our crops. In order to encourage people, the local government pay us VND800 per rat we catch.”
