Vietnamese young people have thrown traditional Tet family meet-ups aside to take tours to mountainous areas or even the neighbouring countries of Laos and Cambodia.

Many of them started their journeys on the second day of the New Year.

A boy whose nickname, Lantrai, said on ttvnol.com that, “Last Tet, I and my friends travelled to Ha Giang Province to enjoy the attractive natural landscapes."

This year, he called for his friends to the mountainous areas again from the third day of the New Year.

On phuot.vn forum Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa in Hanoi called on her friends to take a six-day trip to the north-western region, including Tram Tau-Bac Yen and Muong La from the third day of the lunar January.

Many other young people drove motorbikes for trans-national tours to the neighbouring countries of Laos and Cambodia on Tet.

The topic on the tour to Cambodia posted by Nguyen Trung Hieu in Ho Chi Minh City on ttvnol.com attracted hundreds of supporters, including many girls.

However, he only selected boys because the 4,000-km trip lasted up to two weeks until lunar January 12.

"Besides health and passion, the participants must speak English and have good motorbikes to travel such a long distance. They also need know to how fix their motorbikes on their own,” Hieu added.

The team stayed at Cambodia at the New Year’s Eve and experienced the country’s traditions.

Mr. Hung in Cau Giay District, Hanoi, has taken tours to the mountainous areas for many Tet holidays. For him, it is a favourite hobby. He has enjoyed Tet with Mong ethnic minority people in Thanh Hoa or people in the Central Highlands localities.

He often leaves home on lunar December 30 after buying peach and kumquat for his family and his journeys have left him with a wealth of memories.

He said on his trip to Muong Lat some years ago, he met an accident when he and his motorbike fell down a slope. Luckily, a local helped him recover the motorbike.
