The Mid-Autumn festival is traditionally a special occasion for children, but in recent years more and more young adults have joined in the festivities.

These days, the old quarter of Hanoi is crowded with revelers of the full-moon festival (15th day of lunar 8th month), and the atmosphere resplendent with colourful star-shaped lanterns, gifts and decorations, as well as the crowds of people who come to buy from the various stalls.

The majority of the crowd is young, many coming from nearby schools. Many of them dress up and do not forget to get their photos taken buying gifts. The number of children this year has been quite modest in comparison with previous years.

Mrs. Minh of Cau Giay District said, “The old quarter is so crowded with adults that we keep our children home. We've already bought their toys."

Mr. Khanh in Hoan Kiem District said, “The Mid-Autumn Festival is very different from the past. Even though I live in the old quarter, I've only taken my children to Hang Ma Street once because it is too noisy and crowded. This lasts from morning to late at night. Even the products sold have changed. Many more are made for young adults instead of children. My children's school and my local ward both hold festivals, and this seems like a much better option than jostling around large crowds."
