Teachers receive expensive gifts

More parents who can afford it have tended to forget traditional gifts, spending up to thousands of USD on luxurious products for their children’s teachers on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, November 20.

 

Some well off parents buy hi-tech gifts for teachers

Mrs. Nguyen Nga Linh of Hanoi said many of the colleagues at her company bought clothes and cosmetics for their children’s teachers on occasion of November 20.

"Some years ago, I also bought flowers and enclosed an envelop with a small gift for teachers but, since teachers' houses are often full of flowers on this day, we decided to spend one-month's income to buy gifts,” Linh shared.

Mrs. Huyen added that it is better to find out what teachers like and buy according to their taste.

For one of the teachers who likes fashion, her husband bought a bag worth VND8 million (USD380.9) and an expensive piece of jewellery for another, Huyen said.

Mrs. Oanh, the owner of a beauty spa near a school in Dong Da District, said that she gets many customers who want to buy gift cards around the holiday, many spending as much as VND6-7 million.

Iphone and Ipad gifts

Some other well off parents buy hi-tech gifts, such as Iphones, Ipads and laptops.

Mr. Doanh, also of Hanoi, shared that this year he and his wife bought an Ipad for their child’s teachers, while in previous years they gave them traditional gifts like other parents.

"Teachers have to work hard all day, so I thought they might like a bit of entertainment in the evening, so be bought him an Ipad," he said.

Mrs. Ngoc bought their an Iphone 5 as a gift after their daughter told them that her teacher had lost her phone.

Mr. Doanh said, "Expensive gifts and generous envelopes are also a way for parents to make sure their children receive attention from the teacher."
