Turning away from the regular curriculum vitae (CV) forms, several young people in Vietnam are creating unique ways to introduce themselves to their potential employers.

Creative CV by Hoang Quoc Nhat

Hoang Quoc Nhat, a graphic design graduate, made himself a unique CV with slides imitating the design of a newspaper named “Nguoi tim viec” or Job Seeker.

Each column of the “newspaper” provides specific required information about the job seeker, including personal information, hobbies and jobs preferred.

He didn’t forget to design a table of contents to help readers easily find the main contents of the “newspaper”.

In the “Cau chuyen ban doc” or Reader’s Stories, Nhat listed jobs he has done for the organisation of events and programmes. Stories and articles he wrote for some newspapers were also included with a hyperlink to help find the source quickly.

He expressed his expectations at work in “Tam Su Ban Doc” or Agony Column.

A short time after publishing his CV on employment websites, he has found a highly desirable job as a communications officer.

Do Quynh introducing herself in a short video

Last November, Do Thi Nhu Quynh, a second-year student at the Hanoi-based University of Social Sciences and Humanities, made and uploaded a short video giving a brief introduction about herself on the Internet.

In the video she introduced herself, her hobbies and her dream to become an editor and MC for a TV channel. She attracted the audience’s attention by her fluent-speaking, expressive voice and her confident manner as well.

“I decided to make this video and send it to a contest entitled “Tim kiem guong mat tren VTV3” or Seeking  an MC for VTV3. Previously I was a reserve girl but I have a great passion to work for a TV channel, so I decided to affirm myself,” Quynh said.

Nguyen Thi Tra My, a new graduate of press and communications from the Hanoi-based University of Social Sciences and Humanities, made a short video containing several images which introduced her to the world outside.

She talked about her personality, illustrating by the story with photos taken during her probation and practice. She also included some of her articles and stories published in several newspapers, along with her job expectations, hobbies and skills.

She said she learned much about solidarity from her favourite football team, Manchester United. Wayne Rooney was her idol and he inspired her enthusiasm, dynamism and endeavor in life.

She also mentioned some of her weaknesses, but she also said she has an inquiring mind as well.

“I want to make an impressive CV in order to find a job as an editor for a TV programme, or work in the field of event organisation. After consideration, I decided to make a  video using  PowerPoint slides." My said.

She added that she wanted to inspire young people to change the styles of their CVs to impress potential employers.
