Ai said that on June 2, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism asked him to sign a document related to the planning of Son Tra Peninsular, saying that the document was the instruction of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, so it needed to be signed urgently.

According to the document, what Chairman of the Danang Tourism Association Huynh Tan Vinh said at a forum on the sustainable development of Son Tra Peninsular on May 31 was unreasonable, causing the public misunderstanding over the planning. So the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism urged the Danang Tourism Association to punish Vinh who is also requested to send his explanations for his statements to the ministry before June 15.

However, on June 4, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism suddenly revoked the document signed on June 2 by Deputy Minister Huynh Vinh Ai, saying that some details of the document were not clear and suitable. The ministry would continue hearing objective opinions on the Son Tra Peninsular plan. The ministry admitted its mistakes in issuing the document.

After newspapers published the ministry’s document aimed at Vinh, the deputy prime minister called him, saying that this was not his instruction to ask him to sign the document, Ai explained why the document had been withdrawn.

Deputy Minister Huynh Vinh Ai said that Vinh accepted his apology and this is was really a big lesson for him. The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has also been required to give an explanation over its involvement in the case.

Earlier at the forum on May 31 on the sustainable development of Son Tra Peninsular planning, Vinh said that Son Tra was the green lung of Danang City, and questioned how the city would be if the lung was turned into a construction site.

He said that “What should we choose, building resorts on Son Tra or keeping it as a wild tourist destination?” and he would try his best to protect Son Tra.

According to Vinh, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s overall planning of Son Tra Peninsular violated the law on forest protection 2004, the law on bio-diversification 2008 and the law on sea environment and islands 2015.
