The water of Red River has risen following recent heavy rains, bring many difficulties for dozens of poor households living on the river bank.

Over the past month, torrential rains in the northern region have caused the water level of the Red River to rise. The water level has become much higher after the water discharge of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant.

Many riverside sections belonging to the two districts of Hoan Kiem and Long Bien have been put under water, affecting households living there.

The water of Red River has risen following recent heavy rains.

Sitting in his submerged house, Nguyen Van Thanh said that his family had been living here for many years and at this time of every year, his house is often flooded.

He added that he has had many sleepless nights to protect his house from the high water.

Another dozen households are located some 500 metres from Thanh’s house. They are also facing with the same difficulties with Thanh.

During the flooding, Nguyen Van Moc has to store food and the rain water to use as his well was flooded.

Many paths in the slum areas have been put deep under water, so many people even have to use boats to move.

Some sections have not yet been flooded until now, but if the river water continues rising, they will be submerged as well.

They have been living by Red River for many years, but without clean water and electricity. They grow vegetables and sell them in the city.
