Border patrol agents work diligently to prevent illegal crossers
Vietnamese border guards have worked tirelessly to prevent illegal crossings at a border gate in Kien Giang Province.
Ha Tien City in Kien Giang Province shares a land and maritime borders with Cambodia. As the result, the border guards have worked tirelessly to patrol the border all day and night. Two of the hotspots are Phu Quoc and Ha Tien cities. The patrol works in Ha Tien are extremely difficult because the city shares both land and maritime borders with Cambodia.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tung, head of the border guards at Ha Tien Border Gate, said there were 48 checkpoints in Ha Tien and they had been sending more people to patrol to prevent illegal border crossings. They also implemented plans to continue to raise public awareness.
The border guards patrol through the night. Lieutenant Nguyen Su Long said, "We patrol six to 10 rounds a night. We also have two to three people staying at the checkpoints all day and night. The paths become really muddy so it's much harder to patrol during rainy season."
