Many families in Hanoi are facing difficulties finding home guards for the coming Lunar New Year holiday despite offering high salaries.
"I've posted the information on many social networks for a week but there hasn't been any feedback," Duc said. "I've called some service providers and they said this was the peak season when demand was high and they would contact me later."
Nguyen Van Luc in Cau Giay District has also been unable to find a home guard after searching on social networks, service providers and even relatives and friends.
“Some service providers have told me that they have received enough orders and can’t arrange more staff," Luc said. "If we can’t find someone to take care of our house, I have to stay while my wife and the children visit our parents during Tet."
Many people are expressing concerns over the shortage of home guards around the Tet holiday.
According to Nguyen Thanh Long, manager at a company providing home security services in Hanoi, they usually receive more orders but face a shortage of staff during Tet.
"Tet is the most important festival with Vietnamese people so many people just want to reunite with their families," he said. "Although many customers agree to pay the fee of between three or four times higher than that of a normal day, we just can’t arrange enough staff and have to refuse many orders."
Some companies are providing the service at the prices of between VND 700,000-VND 2.5 million a day.
Long adds that prices for home security service depends on the size of the house. The daily prices usually range between VND700,000-VND1.7 million for houses of below 52 square metres and between VND1.8-2.5 million a day if the house is more than 52 square metres.
