The Directorate of Vocational Education and Training noted this year's event is a "special iteration" as it is getting underway across 15 countries and territories in two continents.

The contest has attracted the participation of 1,000 candidates from 63 countries and territories worldwide, said Dr. Nguyen Chi Truong, director of the Department of Vocational Skills under the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training.

Vietnamese candidates are set to compete in 10 out of 63 skill competitions, including Mechatronics, Cloud Computing, Information Network Cabling, Water Technology, Electrical Installations, CNC Milling, CNC Turning, Mechanical Engineering CAD, IT Software Solutions for Business, and Hairdressing.

These competitions are to be held across six countries, namely Germany, France, Finland, Austria, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

The WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition is the official replacement for WorldSkills Shanghai 2022, which was canceled in May due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vietnamese delegation started participating in the 39th WorldSkills Competition back in 2007 when the event was held in Japan. The 2022 contest marks the eighth time that Vietnam has participated in the event.

Vietnam has so far won one silver medal, two bronze medals, and 37 certificates of excellent vocational skills.
