Hanoi- Party features finest reggae music

Once a month, The Skank The Tank – the Reggae Sound System based in Hanoi, provides the finest reggae selections from the early 60's to the future dub sounds.

After his successful performances at the Hanoi New Music Festival in 2013, Hanoi is pleased to once again welcome the composer and percussionist Burkhard Beins. He will conduct a workshop with the musicians of the DomDom Centre for Experimental Music and Sound Art, managed by composer Kim Ngoc.

Hanoi-Asian Youth Jazz Orchestra Pre-Concert – A Jazz Concert by 6 Japanese Musicians

Hanoi- Exhibition "Through the window"

An exhibition by artist Duong Thuy Duong who describes her works as what she sees through her window after her kids go to school.

"I stay at home alone with a cup of hot coffee in hand, listening to Rachmaninoff and looking out of the window. It is a large window overlooking lush vegetation, the bright sun of summer, the falling leaves of autumn, the grey and gloomy skies of winter and the fragile, icy space that precedes the arrival of spring.

"I like to stay and think like this. Nothing important, just the reflections of an ordinary person, an ordinary woman, an ordinary mother.

"The coffee is cold, the music has stopped, four seasons pass, and... I paint..."

Hanoi-Photo exhibition showcases contemporary Italian architecture

About 10 panels carrying the images of the most important new Italian architecture. Entitled "Small Utopias", the exhibition features examples of architecture selected by MAXXI Architecture, the National Museum of 21st Century Arts, which is a national museum of contemporary art and architecture in Rome.

Hanoi-Tet Art Fair opens in Hanoi’s old quarter

The First Contemporary Tet Art Fair in Vietnam with an exhibition by three renowned Vietnamese artists – Tran Huy Oanh, Trinh Tuan and Le Huy Tiep.

The fair was inspired by a nearly-lost tradition in which Vietnamese in the past often went to the market and bought paintings to welcome Tet (Vietnamese New Year), a representative of the organisers revealed.

It features more than 350 artworks by 88 renowned and talented Vietnamese artists. Many other exciting events including an Art Tour, Art Talk, Art Workshop, Art Films, and Art Performance are also planned.

Hanoi-Exhibition “Dan – Movements”

Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street

First solo lacquer exhibition by Hanoi-based artist Nguyen Duc Dan with 55 artworks created in the last three years. In 2002, Nguyen Duc Dan started learning lacquer paiting in Traditional Fine Art Deparment, Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts. Graduating in 2007, Dan became a freelance artist, devoted entirely to painting and lives on the proceeds of his works.

Hanoi-Hang Trong Folk Painting Exhibition

Featuring Trang Trinh’s collection of Hang Trong folk paintings which used to be the pride of Hanoians in the old days.

This is a non-profit program to honor artisans and support young artists.

 

Hanoi- Exhibition “Khoảng” by Kim Jung Hyun

Korean Cultural Centre, 49 Nguyen Du Street

A self portrait exhibition titled “Khoảng” (Distance) by Kim Jung Hyun, a Korean artist living in Vietnam. She has left South Korea long time ago since she was young. For the first year in HCMC, she faced a lot of struggles and began to draw as a way to overcome the different feelings in her life due to language barrier.

The exhibition will feature 20 artworks including oil paintings, carved wood and painted silk.

Hanoi-Exhibition “Winter Hues” by Ha Manh Thang

Paintings with inspiration from the cold northern winter in Hanoi by artist Ha Manh Thang.

Ha Manh Thang (born in 1980) has gained lots of success, and he is by now the most important young artist in Vietnam. He was also the first artist from Vietnam profiled in the Phaidon publication “Painting Today – 2009” alongside such acclaimed artists as Gerhard Richter, Neo Rauch and Peter Doig.

A group exhibition to celebrate the 2015 Lunar New Year.

10 participating artists are recognized names who have had successful solo or group exhibitions before. They are Phuong Binh, Hoang Thi Phuong Lien, Nguyen Phan Bach, Pham Tran Quan, Tran Gia Tung, Tao Linh, Le Thiet Cuong, Le Dinh Nguyen, Do Dung, Trinh Tu.

Hanoi-Traditional Spring festival to welcome in Tet

Feb 6-15,

Vietnam Culture and Arts Exhibition Centre, No.2 Hoa Lu Street

Prancing goat: One of the goat paintings by Le Tri Dung displayed at the spring festival.

A recreated ethnic minority market from the northern province of Lao Cai features unique specialities such as green tea, rice wine, thang co (horse or beef meat, bones and tripe cooked together), men men (steamed ground maize) and xoi ngu sac (five-colour glutinous rice).

Ethnic minority people trade in bamboo cottages as they do in their villages. Artisans demonstrate their skill in trades like embroidery, weaving, carving and making wine.

Visitors can join folk games such as nem con (throwing a ball through a hoop) and playing khen (bamboo pipe).

The exhibition area features traditional rituals carried out during Tet.
