A Lao Dong Newspaper reporter has had to apologise for an offensive post about Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H’Hen Nie on his Facebook.

After, H’Hen Nie from the ethnic minority group of E De was crowned Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 last Saturday, reporter Dao Tuan posted a status on his Facebook, comparing her skin tone to the colour of male genitalia.

Tuan’s status has faced strong opposition from many Facebook users who say that this is really a rude, racist and sexist comment to her.

On Monday, the Ministry of Information and Communications’ the Press Regulatory Department requested Lao Dong Newspaper to ask its employee to report on his controversial Facebook post about H’Hen Nie.

The newspaper has been urged to submit the settlement result of the case to the department before January 12.

On January 9, Dao Tuan sent his apology to Nie through his friends’ Facebook while his Facebook account was still blocked. Tuan admitted that he had made an offensive and humiliating Facebook post about H'hen Nie, using unacceptable words. “I was wrong and apologise to Nie and the public,” he wrote.

“I have submitted my report to the Ministry of Information and Communications as well as the newspaper where I am working for. I am now waiting for disciplinary action or punishment. This is the price I have to pay for my words and statements which a reporter and a media person should refrain from making,” he said.
