The Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security with Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper and Toyota Vietnam Company launched the Vietnam Traffic Safety Initiative 2023 programme on April 5.

According to the organiser, the Vietnam Traffic Safety Initiative 2023 programme will be held from April to September to raise people's awareness about traffic safety and general traffic-related issues. The initiative is also intended to be a bridge connecting state management agencies with the public. The intention is to help the public be more aware of traffic laws and co-operate with the authorities to improve traffic order and safety.

The programme will build on the activities of last year, organise the Vietnam Traffic Safety Initiative 2023 contest and facilitate expert talks.

The contest will have two categories that will focus on general traffic safety and the use of technology in traffic safety. In detail, it will address traffic congestion, drink-driving, road safety; and general traffic order and safety awareness.

The 2023 contest was launched in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in April 2023. Entries can be sent from April to August 2023, and awards will be presented in September 2023.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha commented that the Vietnam Traffic Safety Initiative 2022 programme had been a success with hundreds of research projects, taken from the real needs of the community and then put into practice, having a successful impact on people's lives.

“The programme has become an effective bridge between the management agency and the people and the community," she said. "I hope the programme will attract more participants this year and potentially help solve many traffic issues, including reducing traffic accidents and congestion.

Attending the ceremony, Deputy Director of the Traffic Police Department, Le Xuan Duc, said the first quarter of this year had shown positive results in relation to traffic safety in Vietnam, with a falling number of traffic accidents and death toll compared to the same period last year.
