Four pieces of rhino horn weighing 11.8 kilos and 37 pieces of elephant tusks weighing 4.7 kilos were found after customs officers checked the luggage of a passenger who flew in from Doha, Qatar.

According to the male passenger, a man named Chung paid him VND50 million to transport two packages containing elephant tusks and rhino horn from Angola to Vietnam. His flight departed from Angola on April 21 and transited at Doha. Qatar customs officers checked one of his packages and found four pieces of the rhino horn and seized them, but allowed him to fly to Vietnam with one package on April 24.

The man said that he had no information about the receiver of the packages in Vietnam as Chung told him that someone would contact him to receive the goods but he hadn't received any calls yet.

Hanoi Customs Department are further investigating the case.
