Peach growers in Nhat Tan Village, Hanoi, have had very good results but must sell at lower prices this year.

Nhat Tan peach blossoms superior to last year

The peach orchards of Nhat Tan signify the Tet atmosphere. Hundreds of trucks rushing into the village to take peach blossoms into the city. Most of the high-quality ones have already been reserved.

Tien, owner of Xuan Tien Peach Orchard, said that customers have been flocking to buy for the Tet holiday. “ The weather this year has been very good for growing, and the trees are blossoming well. But the prices are still much lower than last year because of the economic situation," he said.

Tien doesn't only sell, but also leases trees at a fee of VND7-15 million (USD333.3-714.3). “Prices this year drop by 20% compared to last year. The income of the growers is just a bit more then the overhead. My orchard should bring in around VND100 million (USD4,761) this year,” he added.

Mr Minh, another local grower, said, a nice branch of peach blossoms is about the same price as that of old ones last year.

Kumquat gardens in Tu Lien Ward, Tay Ho District, have also have good crop. The majority of nice kumquat trees have already been sold. This year, the prices are not much higher than last year, ranging from VND2-5 million (USD95.23-238) per tree.
