The bombed bus

On December 28, Egypt’s prime minister, Mostafa Madbouly, told the media that the bus had taken an unexpected route which was not secured by the security forces.

However, Saigontourist denied the claim and said the bus followed the designated route. The tourists finished the tour and were on the way to a restaurant before returning to Vietnam. According to the Saigontourist, their partner, Egypt Explorer Tours, confirmed after the incident that the bus had followed the given route.

Vietnam Embassy in Egypt also said that the bus was on the route for tourists and local citizens. There were no warning signs. When being asked about the incident, the driver said he was on the right road.

Saigontourist said they were working with the embassy and the hospital staff to fly lightly injured tourists back to Vietnam. As of now, eight tourists have recovered and will board the flight to return to Vietnam on today, December 31. They have also worked with insurance companies on the issue.

Three Vietnamese tourists and an Egyptian guide were killed near the Giza pyramids outside Cairo after their bus was hit by a roadside bomb on December 28. They had been on tour since December 22 and were on their way to the last dinner of the tour.
