A 10-year-old boy in Ho Chi Minh City has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 again a month after being successfully treated and discharged from hospital.

The boy is discharged from hospital on April 10

The patient returned to Ho Chi Minh City from the Czech Republic on March 14 and was sent to a local quarantine area.

He showed no symptoms of virus infection and tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 on March 18.

However, he tested positive in the second test on March 27 and was treated at the Ho Chi Minh City Children's Hospital. He was reported to be in a stable condition, with no cough or fever.

He tested negative three times from April 1 to 6 and was released from hospital on April 10.

The boy had completed the 14-day quarantine period at home after being discharged.

As the city has found a number of cases tested positive after being released, local authorities decided to re-test all those who have recovered in the last 30 days. The boy was found positive for the virus on May 5.

According to his family, since being discharged from hospital, he only had contact with family members and another family living in the same building.

The patient has been transferred to Cu Chi Field Hospital for treatment. All those in close contact with the patient have been moved to the quarantine area of District 2.

Local health officials have sprayed disinfectant at high-risk areas in the building and advised people to implement measures to avoid risk of infection.

This is the 10th case in the city to have tested positive again after recovery.
