British woman among six new Covid-19 patients in Vietnam

Two foreign people and four Vietnamese people who recently arrived in Vietnam from abroad have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of patients in the country to 2,852, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday evening.

According to the ministry's report, the two foreign patients include a 26-year-old British woman and a six-year-old Iranian boy who landed at Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi from Qatar on April 24. They were both sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on April 25.

The two patients are now being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

The four Vietnamese patients are all women aged between 23-35 who recently returned from Russia, South Korea, and the UAE to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. They were all sent to local quarantine areas upon arrival and are now being treated at local hospitals.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,852, including 1,282 imported patients.

As of 6 pm on April 25, a total of 2,516 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 41,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.

On April 25, more than 10,660 people were given Covid-19 vaccine in Vietnam, raising the total number of vaccinated people in the country to 209,632.
