The number of customers coming to Viettel and VinaPhone's dealers to have a look and purchase an iPhone has significantly dropped in the three days the phone has been available.

A staff member from one Viettel dealer on Nguyen Trai Street shared that during the day, a number of customers still come and check out the iPhone, but not many decide to buy.

Before iPhones were distributed officially on March 26, rumours about iPhone being sold at zero dong or costing only VND 4 million (207 USD) had created a fever among potential customers and the number of people who booked for an iPhone through the phone operators websites reached amazing records.

VinaPhone said, 70,000 customers registered for an iPhone on their website, however, the number of iPhones sold during the past few days has only been about 500.

Viettel had previously claimed there was more than 50,000 iPhones booked through their system, but until now, the phone operator has not announced a specific number of iPhones that were sold.

These two phone operators were reportedly to have imported a total of about 12,000 iPhones to meet the demand of the Vietnam market.

According to phone experts, iPhones are not selling because at the price they are currently being sold for, it is still too high for most people with an average salary to purchase.

At present, MobiFone, the third phone operator to distribute iPhones, still has yet to issue any sales policy or a timeframe for the release of the phone. Representatives from MobiFone denied any reports saying they could not distribute iPhones on the same day as the other two phone operators due to some negotiation trouble with Apple corporation.

Mr. Le Ngoc Minh, General Manager of MobiFone said, the phone operator will start to distribute its iPhones at the beginning of April. MobiFone, taken the advantage of being the last iPhone distributor, is trying to find a sales policy that is attractive enough to draw customers from their competitors.
