The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) suspended a VietJet Air crew that decided to land in Cam Ranh City instead of their original destination of Dalat.

The CAAV announced, “The crew did not comply with standard flight procedures."

The flight, VN-A692, took off from Hanoi carrying about 200 passengers as well as cargo, and was scheduled to land in the city of Dalat on the evening of June 19, but chose to land in Cam Ranh City, Khanh Hoa Province instead.

VietJet Air immediately reported the incident to the CAAV, asking permission schedule another flight to transport the passengers and cargo to Dalat. Permission was granted and the next flight arrived at its scheduled destination that night.

The next day, CAAV officials and authorities from Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi met with the leaders of VietJet Air to gather more information about the situation. Initial investigation showed that there were irregularities in the conduct of the flight crew.

Their assessment was that the misconduct of the crew posed a risk to aviation safety and so decided to suspend the crew and some VietJet Air officials in Hanoi pending further investigation. There may be further disciplinary measures taken for those found to have made clear violations.

VietJet Air explained that they were forced to change the flight due to unfavourable weather conditions in Dalat. They also stated that such changes are a regular occurrence in aviation, and are common all over the world.
