VietJet Air fined for landing mistake

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) decided to fine domestic low-cost carrier VietJet Air a total VND107.5 million (USD5,100) for landing at the wrong airport last week.

 

Flight VN-A692 took off from Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi carrying about 200 passengers as well as cargo, and was scheduled to land in Dalat on the evening of June 19. The crew chose instead to land in Cam Ranh City, Khanh Hoa Province.

VietJet Air will be fined VND40 million for employing an unlicensed crew member. In addition, nine individuals from the crew will be fined between VND7.5 million to VND20 million each.

Do Anh Tuan, who tried to cover up the landing mistake, will be fined VND15 million.

Meanwhile, the fine for Hoang Xuan Duong, deputy head of the Flight Operation Centre, will be VND20 million for assigning staff members without licenses to positions related to flight operation.

A fine of VND7.5 million was decided on for Captain Pavel Ondrej, his assistant Amin Hassiri, the chief flight attendant, Phan Thi Huong Trang, flight schedule arrangement officer Chu Thanh Liem and deputy head of the flight management board at Noi Bai Airport, Nguyen Thi Thu Huong.

VietJet Air has also dismissed an air traffic controller and imposed disciplinary measures on several other employees involved in the landing scandal.
