The commitment was given at the meeting with 2,000 businesses including 1,500 from the private sector, 200 from FDI companies, and 100 from state-owned and equitised firms, in Hanoi on May 17.

The meeting was attended by Politburo members, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, deputy prime ministers, government members, representatives from financial institutions and professional associations.

Leaders of all cities and provinces and other business representatives will join the meeting online, bringing the attendance to 10,000.

In his opening speech, PM Phuc encouraged participants to give constructive and straightforward proposals to contribute to administrative reform and building a government of support for businesses.

"Since my last meeting with the business community in Ho Chi Minh City last April, the local business climate has seen remarkable improvement," he noted.

“However, these achievements are still humble and are just the first results. There still exist numerous obstructions affecting business performance. The government will today enact a directive which helps better implement Resolution 35 on improving the local business and investment environment,” the PM added.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vu Tien Loc said Resolution 35 showed the government's strong determination to support and develop the business community.

"Many firms have benefited from this resolution after changes in administrative procedures were made at the ministries of finance, industry and trade and public security and various localities," Loc said.

"However, there are still numerous obstacles affecting local businesses, he added. "The number of newly-established companies has increased in the first months of 2017 but so has the number of businesses folding. And the main causes were the difficult business environment, inadequate legal system and cumbersome administrative procedures."
