Authorities of the central province of Thua-Thien Hue are concerned that the lower sales of Huda beer, one of the locality’s major sources of income, would affect the provincial budget revenues.

The provincial people’s committee held a press conference on socio-economic activities on October 19.

According to a report from the committee, in the first nine months of this year, Hue Brewery Ltd. Co. produced 142.1 million litres of beer, 25.2% lower than the annual target. Sales have been down in central localities such as Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Tri, which is attributed to strong competition from big rivals in the market.

However, sales have increased in some other central localities such as Danang City and Quang Nam Province.

Phan Ngoc Tho, vice chairman of Thua Thien-Hue People’s Committee, said that Huda beer accounts for around 25-30% of the province’s total budget revenue annually. So far this year, the company contributed around VND1 trillion (USD45.4 million) to the budget, down 6.8% on-year.

He added besides that some big companies in the province such as Hanesbrands Inc. and Luks Cement Ltd. Co. have also contributed less to the local budget.

Between January and September this year, Thua Thien-Hue Province’s budget revenues were estimated at VND5 trillion (USD227.2 million).
