PM approves capital rise for Hanoi metro project

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has agreed to allow Hanoi’s metro project to increase its capital by VND16.12 trillion (USD727.2 million).

The Nam Thang Long-Tran Hung Dao Metro Line 2 route, which had initial capital of VND19.55 trillion (USD836.6 million) will be raised to VND35.67 trillion (USD1.59 billion).

The PM assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to co-operate with the Ministry of Finance as well as the Hanoi People’s Committee to carry out the capital adjustment.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment has also been asked to report on the project’s implementation for submission to the National Assembly.

The Nam Thang Long-Tran Hung Dao metro project uses the Japanese ODA. The project was scheduled to be conducted in the 2009-2015 period. It was later delayed for completion until 2017. However, work has yet to start on the line.

The route will be 11.5 kilometres long, including 8.5 kilometres underground, and will have ten stations.
