Hanoi has set a goal to attract up to VND270 trillion (USD12.3 billion) from both local and foreign investors this year.

Hanoi authorities are preparing to hold an investment promotion forum on June 17 to call on investment into tertiary education, high-tech agricultural development, health, environment and tourism.

The event is expected to see the participation of around 1,500 people, including representatives from ministries, agencies, embassies as well as local and foreign companies.

Tran Ngoc Nam, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment, said this will be the third time the city holds such a forum.

In 2016, through the forum, the city attracted 95 investment projects with a total registered investment capital of VND36.9 trillion (USD1.67 billion). The 2017 forum saw the registration of 135 projects worth a combined capital of around VND100 trillion (USD4.54 billion) and the figures are hoped to rise to 160 projects valued at VND270 trillion (USD12.3 billion) in total this year.

According to Nam, a list of projects calling for investment during the 2018-2020 period will be introduced at the forum.

At the forum, a ceremony to grant memorandum of understanding for investment co-operation between Hanoi and other localities as well as between companies in Hanoi and other partners nationwide will be also organised.

The forum will see the granting of investment certificates for some major city projects.
