Chinese businesses are looking to collaborate with Vietnamese partners to stock Vietnamese rice in supermarkets throughout Guangxi province.

The plan was revealed at a seminar on rice trade between Vietnamese and Chinese businesses which was recently held in Can Tho City within the framework of the Trade Promotion Programme between the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Import-Export Department, Vietnamese localities and a delegation of 15 Chinese businesses.

After conducting a fact-finding tour of storehouses and rice processing and production facilities used by rice export businesses in Can Tho City and Kien Giang Province, the Chinese business delegation said they have confidence in the quality and safety of Vietnamese rice. They expressed a desire to continue their cooperation with Vietnamese partners, especially in distributing rice to supermarket chains in Guangxi province.

In recent years, China has become the largest consumer of Vietnamese rice, accounting for around 30% of the country’s total rice exports. Last year, it imported US$2.29 million tons of rice worth US$1.03 billion, a year-on-year rise of 31.6% in volume and 32% in value.
