Mooncake stalls blatantly encroach on Hanoi pavements
As the Mid-Autumn Festival nears, many streets in Hanoi’s city centre have been illegally used by mooncake stalls.
This is an annual problem before the festival despite efforts by the authorities to tackle pavement encroachment.
Customers often park their vehicles on streets to buy the cakes, affecting traffic.
Kinh Do, Huu Nghi, Thu Huong, Bao Ngoc and Long Dinh mooncake brands are all guilty. Some stalls are even set up at the yard of apartments, causing local residents’ outrage.
The moon-cake stands take up the pavement space for pedestrians.
