Hanoi authorities have proposed that 20,000 taxis operated by 60 local taxi firms should share the same livery colours from 2026

According to the draft regulation, a new colour will replace the three current colours of white, green and grey and be applied to more than 20,000 taxis in Hanoi.

The Hanoi Taxi Association has been assigned to register the future colour for these 20,000 taxis with the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam.

Hanoi also plans to set up a centre for the management of a common taxi operating software which will connect passengers, taxi agencies and taxi drivers through smart devices such as smartphones and tablets. Taxi drivers and operators will not be allowed to use technical measures or peripheral equipment that interferes with this software. The software is expected to be used from January 1, next year.

Hanoi will be divided into two operating zones for taxis, with the first including all urban districts and the second covering rural areas. Taxi firms will be required to register their zone of operation with local authorities and only collect passengers in their own zone.
