Noi Bai International Airport authorities have found around 280 illegal taxi cases in the first seven months of this year.

In many cases, passengers, including foreigners, were coerced to use unlicensed taxis and overcharged.

To improve the situation, the airport has signed a franchise contract for the passenger transportation with 14 taxi firms. Taxi companies are bound to provide the service for passengers of all flights every day at the airport, including flights during Tet and holidays.

The list of the taxi firms is available in public areas of the airport as well as its website.

The airport has moved to tighten control over taxi violations. However, according to airport authorities, co-operation from passengers is very important. They need to be careful when receiving text messages to invite them to use taxi services and should only select the taxi firms that have signed contracts with the airport.

In March, 12 men were fined for trying to invite people to use illegal taxi services at Noi Bai International Airport, causing public disorder. After paying the fine of between VND100-300,000 (USD4.34-13), they had to sign a commitment not to repeat the violation.
