Hanoi authorities have confiscated more than 10 tonnes of illegally-imported confectionery and milk tea products, including a large amount of moon cakes.

The goods were found on two trucks which were parked under Vinh Tuy Bridge on Wednesday morning. The vehicles had the number plate of the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai.

Over 10 illegally-imported tonnes of confectionary and milk tea seized in Hanoi.

The products which all bear Chinese brands are mostly moon cakes, sweets and cakes and milk tea for the coming Mid-Autumn Festival.

However, no legal papers for the goods have been shown.

The case is still under the investigation.

Every year, when the Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner, the illicit sales of mooncakes rises.

In September last year, Hanoi police busted three cases in Hoang Mai District, seizing a huge amount of illegally imported mooncakes. According to the police, the mooncakes were illegally imported from China via Lao Cai for only one-third of their retail price and didn't pass through any food hygiene examinations.
