>> Vietnam steps up quality at the ATM

The police in Hanoi have installed ‘first warning’ equipment at Vietnam Prosperity Bank (VP Bank) to increase security at ATMs.

New alarm equipment being tested

A first trial of the equipment was installed at a VP Bank ATM, close to Buoi market, Ba Dinh district on January 27.

The project to heighten security was initiated by the municipal police. It cames after a fact that the city has seen dozens of ATM connected theft, with combined losses to both banks and customers worth billions of VND.

The equipment was designed to give warnings to local police, as well as bank management, so they can deal quickly with suspicious activities. VPBank is the first bank to test and implement such equipment.

Duong Thi Thuy, Deputy General Director of VPBank said the bank has carried out inspections on all its ATMs nationwide before Tet. Officials have been assigned to be continuously on call in order to supervise operations of ATMs. The bank wants to make sure that customers have save and reliable service.
