Forest fire breaks out in An Giang
A big forest fire has occurred at Co To Mountain in the southern province of An Giang.
The incident happened at around 6 pm on Friday in Tri Ton District’s Nui To Commune.
The fire started in an area of dry grass and then spread with loud explosions which are suspected to be from leftover bombs, according to Nguyen Van Be Tam, chairman of Tri Ton District.
Tri Ton mobilised many firefighting vehicles and 200 people. However, terrain difficulties and heavy smoke and falling debris slowed firefighting efforts. The fire was brought under control at 10 pm.
Co To Mountain, also known as Phung Hoang Son is 600 metres high and is one of the peaks in the That Son mountain range.
Co To Mountain is home to numerous beehives and boasts hundreds of extensive caves.
