The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has not yet reached a final decision whether to choose a Vietnamese or foreign coach for the national football team.

VFF dithers over domestic coach for national football team

After Coach Phan Thanh Hung resigned following the squad’s failure at the AFF Cup, discussions over the new coach have been carefully conducted.

According to VFF Vice Chairman Nguyen Lan Trung, the national team will be led by a caretaker coach, with the final decision being made prior to the SEA Games 27 in Myanmar.

VFF General Secretary Le Bang said the federation will consider assigning Hoang Van Phuc who currently trains the U22 team as caretaker.

“The VFF will reach their decision with the best interests of the team in terms of the Asian Cup 2015 and SEA Games slated to be held by the end of 2013”, he noted.

However, it seems likely that the VFF leadership will favour a local coach despite Phan Thanh Hung’s abject failure at the AFF Cup.
