Vietnam\'s only karate gold-medal winner at the last Asian Games (ASIAD), Vu Thi Nguyet Anh, will defend her title at the Games in Guangzhou, China in November.

Anh is training hard for ASIAD after sustaining a knee injury last year.

Anh and 14 teammates will compete in an open event in Indonesia to prepare for the Games. The tournament will kick off on Thursday.

Vietnamese coaches also hope to win more gold medals in the kata (performance) event. Vietnamese athlete Nguyen Hoang Ngan won the kata medal at the World Games in 2009.

Ngan was also victorious at the World Karate Championship two year ago and pocketed a silver medal at the previous Games in Doha, Qatar.

She will warm-up for the Guangzhou event at the world championship, which will start later this month in Belgrade, Serbia.
