Vingroup CEO named young global leader by WEF
CEO and vice chairwoman of Vingroup, Le Thi Thu Thuy, who has been named
to the Young Global Leaders Class of 2013 by the World Economic Forum
Le Thi Thu Thuy, CEO and vice chairwoman of giant Vietnamese property company Vingroup JSC, has been named to the 199-strong Young Global Leaders Class of 2013 by the World Economic Forum.
Thuy, 39, who became CEO in June 2012, was honored for her helming of Vingroup during the world financial crisis, news website VnEconomy reported Wednesday.
After joining the company in 2008, Thuy made her mark on the global stage by issuing US$100 million worth convertible bonds in the international market in 2009 and making another $300 million issue three years later.
Earlier she was vice president of US financial services company Lehman Bothers Holdings Inc. in Japan, Thailand, and Singapore offices, covering multiple markets from North Asia to South Asia .
A chartered financial analyst, Thuy got a bachelor's degree in economics from the Hanoi Foreign Trade University and an MBA from the International University of Japan.
Every year, the WEF, a Swiss non-profit foundation, names 100 to 200 people for the honor out of 5,000 nominees from all over the world.
Candidates have to be under 40 and meet some criteria including having extraordinary accomplishments and a strong commitment to serving society.
Winners become active members of the Forum of Young Global Leaders, which is held annually and now has more than 700 members, and become involved in the activities of the WEF that brings together top global business and leaders and intellectuals to discuss socio-economic issues.
This year the Forum of Young Global Leaders will be held in Yangon, Myanmar from June 2 to 5.
Gian Tu Trung, an education activist, is the other Vietnamese to be named this year.
