Vietnam came fifth overall out of 104 competing countries, with all six members winning medals - two gold, three silver and a bronze - at the contest held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from July 9 to July 15.

The two gold medals went to 11th-grader Vu Xuan Trung and 12th-grader Nguyen The Hoan, who also won gold last year.

Dang Phuong Bac, director of the Thai Binh Province Department of Education and Training, said, "Hoan is a special student of Thai Binh, our hope for more gold medals."

Nguyen Tuan Hai Dang, an 11th grader, and Hoang Anh Tai and Nguyen Huy Hoang, who both are in 12th grade, won silver medals. Nguyen Thi Viet Ha, who is in 12th grade, won bronze.

The ministry has awarded certificates of merits to all the team members and VND15m for gold medalists, VND10m for silver and VND7m for bronze.

The US team topped the medal table, with five gold and one silver, followed by China, South Korea and North Korea. Fifth place is the highest position Vietnam has achieved in nine years of competition.
