Vietnamese student Nguyen Thi Hien Gia from Hanoi-based Foreign Trade University has surpassed hundreds of thousands of competitors around the world to win the bronze medal for Microsoft PowerPoint® 2010 category under the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship (MOSWC) 2015 contest in the US.

Nguyen Thi Hien Gia wins a bronze medal in the MS PowerPoint 2010 category of the MOSWC 2015 contest, which took place in Dallas, Texas from August 9-12.

This was also the only medal secured by the Vietnamese team at MOSWC 2015, which consisted of three competitors, including Tran Minh Tien participating in Microsoft Word category, Pham Truong Giang competing in the Microsoft Excel event and Nguyen Thi Hien Gia competing in the Microsoft PowerPoint contest.

The three students were deemed excellent representatives of Vietnam at the event, surpassing over 1,500 other contestants in the local and national rounds to secure a ticket to this year’s MOSWC final competition.

Since first participating in the contest in 2010, Vietnamese candidates have proved their ability with consecutive high placings in the final rounds. Last year, the team bagged two bronze medals in the MS PowerPoint and Excel categories. In 2013, Vietnam earned a bronze medal in the MS Excel, after a gold medal in the same category in 2012.

This year’s event also saw Vietnam’s Military-run telecom group Viettel sponsor the final round. This is the first time Viettel has sponsored a world-class event, reflecting the group’s commitment to facilitating education for younger generations at an international level.

The MOSWC 2015 final round was held in Dallas, Texas, the US from August 9-12 with the participation of 150 contestants from 80 countries and territories worldwide. There were 600,000 contestants who competed in qualifying rounds.

In the final round, the contestants performed several special tests in the form of projects, which required them to demonstrate the ability to establish new documents, spreadsheets, and presentations based on the given information using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

First held in 2002, MOSWC is an annual competition involving Microsoft Office applications held by Certiport – the leading test delivery solution provider for the global workforce and academic markets.

MOSWC 2016 is scheduled to be held in Orlando, Florida.
