Nguyen Van Huong from the National Centre for Hydro-meteorology Forecasting said the heat wave had maintained its intensity in the central region for 26 consecutive days. Record temperatures have been reported for many localities.

As of now, this heat wave is only shorter than the 32-day heat wave which occurred in 2017 and the 39-day heat wave in 2015. Despite being shorter, its intensity has affected Nghe An as the place with some hottest districts.

The temperatures in Con Cuong District, Nghe An Province, sometimes reached 43.3 degrees, 1 degree higher than the previous record. The highest temperature in Tuyen Hoa District, Quang Binh Province, was 41.6 degree, higher than the previous 41.4 degrees.

The temperature of 43.3 degrees in Con Cuong was recorded on June 22 and was only 0.1 degrees lower than the record temperature that the centre has recorded.

According to Huong, they don't have enough data to announce that this is the hottest summer in history but it is sure that the temperature is increasing.

The heat wave will continue until early August. The average temperatures in Vietnam will be 0.5 to 1 degrees higher than in previous years. The on-going heat wave will end when the low pressure that causes rainstorms in the north appears.
