The ongoing cold spell that struck the northern region two days ago had sent temperatures to 10 degrees Celsius in the lowland areas and below 7 degrees in mountainous areas.

Daily temperatures have increased slightly since January 25.

However, as the cold spell is forecasted to intensify on January 27, temperatures will again begin to drop to nine degrees Celsius in lowland areas and three degrees in mountainous areas. Frost is anticipated to cover some mountainous areas during the early morning.

The intensified cold spell will also affect some central provinces from Quang Binh to Thua Thien-Hue with temperatures dropping slightly to 17 degrees Celsius on January 27, and then to 14 degrees Celsius the following day.

Some other central provinces including Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Binh Dinh will see light showers and thunderstorms.
