Authorities in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong are investigating claims that a local golf course project has encroached on 37.50 hectares of forest.

The USD18-million Dàlat At 1200 Golf Course project invested by the Acteam International Company is under construction on 567 hectares of land and 183 hectares of water surface in the two districts of Duc Trong and Don Duong. The project was given a construction licence in 2007.

During their checks in 2022, local forest rangers found that the project had illegally encroached on over 37.50 hectares of forest including nearly 11.60 hectares of protection forest.

The Lam Dong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the forest may already have suffered damage before 2017 but Don Duong Province failed to report the situation.

Meanwhile, the project's investor, Acteam International, admitted that they had failed to carry out procedures when using 7.10 hectares of forest for their project. However, they denied taking the remaining 30.40 hectares and proposed local authorities check their figures.

Lam Dong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development have been asked to reinspect the project and report to the province's Party Committee before April 15.
