The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has officially invited Coach Hoang Van Phuc to train the national squad  for their two Asian Cup qualifying games early in 2013.

 Coach Hoang Van Phuc
Chief coach Phan Thanh Hung resigned following Vietnam’s poor performance at the recent ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup. His resignation forced the VFF to look for a caretaker coach as the national team prepare to compete in January for the Asian Cup qualifiers.

The national squad will mostly include players from the U22 squad being trained by Coach Hoang Van Phuc according to the VFF. The governing body added that it would only invite some key players who had competed past AFF Cup competitions for consideration.

At its recent Executive Committee meeting, VFF General Secretary Ngo Le Bang revealed that the federation would give priority to a domestic coach, and Hoang Van Phuc was currently highly regarded after his achievements in the BTC Cup.

Phuc is currently training Hanoi T&T who were relegated to the First Division from the V-League in the 2012-2013 season.

Phuc added that he needed time to think about the invitation, and more importantly ask club owner Do Quang Hien for permission.

Based on the performance of the national team in the planned matches, VFF will consider making an official offer to Phuc as national team coach.

Vietnam will take on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on February 6 and Hong Kong in an away match on March 22 next year.
