The event will take place around Hoan Kiem Lake and other historical monuments in the city centre, including the Temple of Literature and Thang Long Imperial Citadel.

According to Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, the festival will introduce kinds of flower associated with Vietnam’s internationally-recognised natural and cultural heritage.

The displays will feature a northern space devoted to Quan Ho folk singing and traditional bamboo instruments, an area devoted to the Dong Son drum culture and lotus flowers, a cultural space featuring the central region cities of Hoi An and Hue and the gong culture of the Central Highlands. Other traditional plants such as peach blossoms and kumquat will also be on display.

The festival also includes a flower arrangement contest, an event at Hoan Kiem Lake to welcome 2012 and Hanoi Tourism Day. The Hoan Kiem Lake event will include dragon dancing and ao dai national costumes and fireworks.

The closing ceremony will focus on honouring the beauty of the Vietnamese lotus and fireworks.
