Vietnam's northern region will see an earlier and hotter summer this year, according to Hoang Phuc Lam, deputy director of the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The number of hot days in northern localities would be higher and more intense than the average of previous years. The peak of the summer would be in May and June in the northwest, while northeastern localities would see temperature high between June and July.

The north will experience the rainy season from May to August. The Central Highlands and southern regions would experience a later rainy season.

Lam has warned that droughts would ravage Binh Thuan, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Lam Dong between April and June and Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan from May to August.

This year, between 11-13 storms and tropical depressions have been forecasted to hit the East Sea, particularly in the central region between September and November.

Between April and May, the southern region would face prolonged hot fronts.

Southern localities are predicted to see lower average total rainfall in April and May than in previous years.
